Greater Noida trade show features firefighting suit and handwoven crafts

Premnender Singh of Mathura displayed a firefighting suit at the India Expo Centre & Mart that he said he has been developing for more than eight years. Singh said the suit’s patented technology can withstand a heat flux of 84 kW/m² and temperatures of 2,500°C for up to five minutes. He said he is using the Greater Noida show to build awareness of it in India, the US and Gulf countries.

The suit is among the technical displays at the fourth Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show, which began on Friday. Elsewhere, Rehmand Ahmed and Mohammed Nasir of Agra sewed carpet designs, some of which Nasir said take a month or more to complete. He said his family has practised the craft for generations.

Hema, 45, and Ramkali, 27, from Lakhanpur village in Agra, demonstrated woven cloth made from material taken from discarded plastic sacks. The women said they have done the work since 2012, after farming previously, and that they complete the weaving by hand with thread and needle.

The show also features zardozi, household and kitchen products, student-led technology projects and paintings at the Vietnam pavilion. Japan, Vietnam, Russia, Singapore, Austria and Belarus are participating as partner countries.

The event opened with 2,400 exhibitors, including makers selling goods from Amroha handlooms to Noida food products. Greater Noida resident RP Seth, visiting with his family, said the handicrafts section was the main draw; his daughter-in-law, Ninni Seth, said it was their favourite part of the show.
