Army officer seeks review of proposed C&D waste centre in Gurugram’s Sector 106

Lt Gen PS Shekhawat has written to MCG commissioner Pradeep Dahiya seeking a review of a proposed construction-and-demolition waste collection centre in Gurugram’s Sector 106.

In his letter, Shekhawat said the site sits amid residential development and Babupur village, with one residential complex about 100 metres away. He flagged its boundary wall with an approved nursery school, saying the expected dust, noise and heavy-vehicle traffic could affect children’s health and safety.

Shekhawat also pointed to the lack of a paved concrete access road, saying trucks travelling to and from the facility could add dust and particulate pollution. He said Sector 106 is marked as residential under the Gurugram Master Plan 2031 and called for an independent assessment of the proposal. The site reportedly has hundreds of trees, which he said could be removed for construction.

Residents had previously approached the National Green Tribunal, arguing against locating the facility near housing societies. The tribunal is scheduled to hear the matter in November.

The proposed centre is part of Gurugram’s wider C&D waste system, for which the MCG cut fees for small generators earlier this month.
