Citizen complaints prompted 19 of Gurugram’s 31 food inspections in September

Social media and government grievance portals prompted 61% of targeted food safety inspections across Gurugram’s two zones in September.

Gurugram’s food safety department conducted 31 targeted inspections in September, with 19 prompted by online and government-portal complaints. Laboratory results will determine action in cases where officials collected samples.

Nineteen of Gurugram’s 31 targeted food safety inspections in September began with a citizen complaint.

The district food safety department said 11 inspection leads came through social media and eight through the Prime Minister’s and Chief Minister’s grievance portals. Together, those complaints accounted for 61.29% of inspections across the city’s two primary zones.

The remaining checks were regular inspections at schools, eateries and grocery warehouses. Complaints concerned food quality and safety, as well as suspected violations at food establishments. Inspection teams collected samples where required, including enforcement samples that may be used in proceedings where violations are found.

Dr Deepak, food safety officer for Gurugram-II, said the department would take action against establishments found to be in violation. Decisions in cases where samples were collected will follow laboratory test results.
