Mehrauli flower sellers and Sadar Bazaar wholesalers reported heavy Saturday demand for Diwali flowers, lights, diyas and decor.
Diwali shoppers crowded markets from Mehrauli to Karol Bagh on Saturday, slowing traffic on roads near major market clusters.
Marigolds were the first choice for many Diwali shoppers at Mehrauli’s wholesale flower market on Saturday, where flower stalls extended beyond the usual market area.
Narayan Singh, who came from Gurugram, said he found a good variety of flowers for Diwali puja at rates lower than in regular markets. Sellers said rose petals, buds, rajnigandha and gerberas were also in demand as the market filled through the morning.
The rush extended across Sarojini Nagar, Lajpat Nagar, Sadar Bazaar and Karol Bagh. Shoppers picked up clothes, accessories, household goods and festive decor, while Sadar Bazaar wholesalers reported bulk purchases of decorative lights, diyas and artificial flowers by customers and retailers stocking up for the festival.
Karol Bagh shops selling lights, wall hangings and diyas also saw busy footfall. Roads beside several markets became congested as shoppers, roadside vendors and vehicles converged through the day. Visitors should allow extra travel time around the main market clusters.
