Delhi Master Plan 2047 notified; 40 lakh homes envisaged

Delhi’s notified Master Plan 2047 envisages more than 40 lakh additional homes by 2047, when the city’s population is projected to cross 3 crore.

Nearly 18 lakh affordable homes are envisaged around Metro and other mass-transit corridors through transit-oriented development. The plan reduces the minimum site area for redevelopment of group housing, DDA housing and government housing from 40,000 sq metres to 3,000 sq metres. Redevelopment of existing areas could add about 7 lakh homes.

For residents of 1,511 unauthorised colonies, residential buildings can be regularised on an “as is where is” basis without conventional layout plans. The plan says this could provide greater property security to around 45 lakh residents.

It also envisages a Unified Parking Planning Framework and a Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority. DDA vice-chairman N Saravana Kumar said Metro and bus services would run 24x7 alongside expanded public transport and multimodal hubs.

The plan sets aside about 138 hectares in Narela for an education hub and identifies Dwarka as an investment hub.
