Delhi weather: light rain and thunderstorms forecast for Friday

Delhi may receive several spells of very light to light rain, thunderstorms and lightning on Friday, the India Meteorological Department has forecast.

The showers are expected as the monsoon axis passes over the city. Meteorologist Navdeep Dahiya said easterly winds could bring localised afternoon and evening rain to parts of Delhi-NCR and neighbouring states through the weekend. He said the expected coverage is 30-40%, meaning some areas may remain dry.

Saturday is likely to bring light to moderate rain at isolated places, followed by very light to light rain each day until Wednesday. Delhi’s maximum temperature, which reached 36.6°C on Thursday, is expected to stay below 33°C from Saturday.

Delhi’s overall AQI was 134, in the moderate category, on Thursday after four rain-free days. The reading was the city’s highest since July 19.
