Delhi nears August rainfall average as light showers continue

Delhi’s August rain tally has reached about 227mm, close to the India Meteorological Department’s long-period average of 233.1mm for the month.

Showers continued on Friday, with Pusa recording 30mm between 8.30am and 5.30pm. Chhatarpur received 24.5mm and Narayana recorded 10mm. Palam, Mayur Vihar and Ayanagar also logged rain during the day. Safdarjung, Delhi’s base weather station, recorded 5.8mm in the same period.

Delhi’s daily average air-quality index was 98, in the satisfactory category. The maximum temperature on Friday was 30.5°C.

The IMD expects several spells of very light to light rain on Saturday, followed by similar conditions from Sunday to Tuesday under generally cloudy skies. No rain-related alerts have been issued. Maximum temperatures are expected to stay below 35°C for the next six days.
