Delhi offers ₹1 crore a month to its cleanest municipal ward

Delhi’s cleanest municipal ward each month is set to receive ₹1 crore under a year-long competition launched by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta at the Municipal Corporation of Delhi headquarters.

The winning ward could receive up to ₹12 crore in CMDF funds over 12 months. Rankings will draw on an independent agency’s reports, assessments submitted by officials, and complaints about garbage received from residents or flagged on social media. Gupta said a garbage complaint could affect a ward’s eligibility.

The ward contest is part of the Delhi Ko Kude Se Azadi-Swachhta Abhiyan 2026, which will run until October 2. The campaign focuses on collection, cleaning, conversion and the circular economy, including waste segregation at source, collection from garbage points, processing at waste facilities and action at spots where rubbish continues to pile up.

Slum-cluster drives are scheduled for August 23 and 30, and September 6 and 13. Parks will be targeted for green-waste removal from September 1 to 10, followed by a hospital cleanliness drive on September 17. Government schools will join the Mera School, Sabse Sundar competition from September 17 to October 2.
