Delhi opens applications for vacant EWS and freeship school seats from Class II

Delhi parents seeking a vacant EWS or freeship seat from Class II onwards can submit one online application per child until September 20.

The Directorate of Education opened the module on September 8 for the 2026-27 academic session. It covers available seats in eligible private unaided recognised schools operating on government- or DDA-allotted land; minority institutions are excluded. A computerised draw, based on the schools selected by parents and their residential address, is tentatively scheduled for September 24.

For EWS admission, a family’s total annual income must be below Rs 5 lakh and applicants need an income certificate from Delhi’s revenue department. Eligible BPL, AAY ration card and food security card holders may also apply. Applicants must live in Delhi.

A child applying for Class II must be older than six and below seven on March 31; the age band rises by a year for each class through Class IX. Nearly 30 zonal teams will check successful applicants’ documents after the draw. The department has warned that duplicate applications or incorrect residential details can lead to cancellation, and said schools cannot seek capitation fees or donations.
