Delhi plans 10 new fire stations, with eight proposed in first phase

Delhi is planning 10 new fire stations, including sites in Geeta Colony, Rohini Sector 41, Yamuna Vihar, Dwarka Sector 20, Anand Parbat, IFC Narela, IFC Ghazipur, Chandrawal Waterworks, Budhanpur Majra Training Centre and Dwarka Sector 3.

Eight stations are proposed for the first phase. Each would be able to accommodate up to six fire tenders, allowing the Delhi Fire Service to position vehicles closer to areas where quick response is needed. Delhi currently has 71 fire stations; the city’s stated requirement is 120 stations.

Home minister Ashish Sood said the government was working to close infrastructure gaps through more staff, firefighting capacity and modern equipment. The Union home ministry has technically vetted the creation of 10,743 new Delhi Fire Service posts, and officials are working out staffing for the proposed facilities.

The Delhi Fire Service has begun discussions with the Public Works Department. Construction will start after land availability, approach roads, equipment needs and other technical requirements are assessed and finalised.
