Delhi: Man held over alleged fake accounts targeting northeast Delhi woman

A 27-year-old man from New Ashok Nagar has been arrested in connection with allegations that he created fake social media accounts using the name of a woman living in northeast Delhi, police said.

The woman told investigators that an unknown person had used her name and photographs on the accounts, then sent obscene videos and images to her husband and acquaintances. She said this caused harassment and distress.

Police registered a case under the IT Act at the northeast district cyber police station and sought details of the suspected accounts from the social media platform. Those details led investigators to a mobile number registered in the arrested man’s name, a senior police officer said.

Police said the man knew the woman and had allegedly been following her since 2022. Each time an account was reported and removed, he allegedly opened another one and repeated the activity. Officers seized a mobile phone they believe was used in the alleged offence.

The investigation is continuing.
