Delhi Police arrest three in alleged luxury car theft network

Delhi Police said they recovered five vehicles alleged to be stolen, 104 forged High Security Registration Plates and 24 forged registration certificates during an operation against an alleged interstate vehicle-theft network.

Police arrested Amit Nagar, 35, of Rohini, along with Atom Jagat Singh, 45, and Potsangbam Mukesh Singh, 28, both residents of Manipur. The Crime Branch alleged that the group used electronic equipment and computer-based scanning devices to bypass vehicle security systems and create duplicate keys.

Special Commissioner of Police (Crime) HGS Dhaliwal said the vehicles were moved through a network of alleged intermediaries, fitted with forged registration documents and false plates, and sent to associates in Manipur, Rajasthan, Punjab, Assam and other states for resale.

Police alleged that two recovered vehicles had reached Ukhrul district in Manipur and were intended for sale to underground groups near the India-Myanmar border. Investigators also recovered duplicate keys, mobile phones and a pre-activated SIM card.

Police alleged that Nagar coordinated the network and that it had operated for nearly 15 years, supplying more than 100 luxury vehicles alleged to have been stolen. Police said the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act has been invoked against Nagar.
