Delhi Police asked to step up patrols near colleges, transit hubs and markets

Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu has asked Delhi Police to increase visible patrols near colleges, transit hubs and crowded markets, with specialised Shishtachar Squads focused on preventing harassment of women and girl students.

At a review meeting with the Police Commissioner, Sandhu called for proactive patrolling at places with high footfall of women and students, and a zero-tolerance approach to harassment. The squads are deployed around educational institutions, transport hubs and busy marketplaces to maintain order and address such complaints.

Security inside Pink Buses was also reviewed. Sandhu asked for a visible presence of police personnel and security staff on board, backed by a quick emergency-response system so passengers can seek help during harassment or other emergencies.

The meeting also covered Delhi Police outreach to elderly residents. Sandhu directed a fresh assessment of the city’s senior-citizen population to identify people not yet part of the support network linked to the Senior Citizen Mobile Application. Beat-level police personnel have been asked to maintain regular contact, make local visits and provide prompt grievance support and emergency assistance.
