Delhi Traffic Police issue 7,298 e-rickshaw challans in week-long drive

Delhi Traffic Police issued 7,298 challans to e-rickshaws and impounded 63 vehicles during a week-long enforcement drive at congestion-prone locations across the city.

The August 16-22 drive targeted e-rickshaws for alleged haphazard driving, wrong-side movement, abrupt stops and unsafe manoeuvres. Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Vijayanta Arya Goyal said such violations disrupted traffic and created risks for passengers, pedestrians and other road users.

Police also issued 7,675 challans for wrong-side driving, 22,992 for riding without a helmet and 1,568 for triple riding during the wider week-long drive. Goyal said Delhi Police have registered 2,676 FIRs so far this year in cases involving blatant wrong-side driving.

On Saturday, traffic police and NDMC officials met members of the Khan Market Traders Association at NDMC’s Disaster Management Centre to discuss traffic regulation, parking, encroachment, pick-and-drop arrangements and security surveillance.
