Delhi Police issue 32,235 challans in week-long traffic drive

For Delhi’s two-wheeler riders, the largest figure from a week-long Traffic Police drive was 22,992: challans issued for riding without a helmet.

Across the city, police issued another 7,675 challans for wrong-side driving and 1,568 for triple riding. The three categories together accounted for 32,235 challans during the campaign, which focused on violations at busy stretches.

E-rickshaw drivers were also checked at congestion-prone locations. Traffic Police issued 7,298 challans and impounded 63 e-rickshaws. Police cited haphazard driving, wrong-side movement, abrupt stops and unsafe manoeuvres as concerns.

So far this year, police have registered 2,676 FIRs in cases involving wrong-side driving under applicable legal provisions. The department said it will continue enforcement at congested and high-traffic locations, with stricter action possible for repeated or deliberate violations.
