Delhi records 10,719 electric-vehicle registrations in July

Delhi recorded 10,719 electric-vehicle registrations in July, marking the highest monthly total reported in the city so far this year.

The increase coincides with the Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy 2026, which is intended to support a shift towards electric mobility through incentives and tax breaks. The policy direction places electric vehicles at the centre of the city’s longer-term transport plans.

For residents considering a new vehicle, the changes could become more significant over the next two years. The government intends to phase out petrol and CNG two-wheelers by April 2028, while also investing in charging infrastructure during the next four years.

The July registration total suggests that electric vehicles are becoming a larger part of Delhi’s vehicle market. However, the practical impact for buyers will also depend on how quickly charging facilities are expanded and how the proposed transition away from non-electric two-wheelers is implemented.
