Delhi records 2,308 H1N1 cases as CM calls emergency review meeting

Delhi has recorded 2,308 H1N1 cases among around 3,000 influenza infections this year, Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said on Tuesday.

The Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, has called an emergency review meeting amid the rise in cases. Singh said doctors, staff and medicines were available, and that isolation wards had been created in every hospital. He said action would be taken against a hospital if a patient reported being denied a bed.

The Health Department’s review involved senior officials from the MCD, NDMC and Delhi Cantonment Board, with preparedness for seasonal influenza and vector-borne diseases on the agenda. The count has risen since Delhi logged more than 1,700 H1N1 cases earlier this month.

H1N1, often called swine flu, can cause fever, cough, sore throat, headache, body aches and fatigue. People with persistent high fever, breathing difficulty, chest pain, confusion or worsening symptoms should seek medical attention promptly.
