Delhi schools use AI in class, increase in-class assessment

Pallavi Sharma, principal of Mamta Modern School, says teachers are seeing students use AI for homework, letters and project work, making it harder to judge what a student has done independently.

The school is responding with more work assessed in class, where teachers can watch students solve problems themselves. It is also setting project questions designed to require analysis rather than a ready-made answer. Teachers are using AI to develop presentations, activities and different ways of explaining lessons.

At Amity International School, Mayur Vihar, principal Meenu Kanwar said technology has widened access to information, career guidance and learning beyond textbooks. She pointed to the National Education Policy’s emphasis on creativity, critical thinking and practical skills.

Jas Elanjikal, principal of St Michael’s Senior Secondary School, Pusa Road, said the central question is whether a tool that can produce quick, logical answers can teach judgment. He said empathy, integrity, compassion and responsibility cannot be reduced to data.

At Mamta Modern School, the practical response is to shift more assessment into the classroom and ask project questions that require students to analyse rather than reproduce an answer.
