Delhi initiates recruitment for 10,417 teachers, plans 170 language labs

Delhi has initiated recruitment for 10,417 teachers, education minister Ashish Sood said at the Shikshak Mahakumbh–State Teachers Awards 2026 at Thyagaraj Stadium in INA.

Chief minister Rekha Gupta honoured 118 educators at the Teachers’ Day programme. The awardees included 20 school heads and 69 teachers from Directorate of Education and MCD schools, as well as teachers from three CM Shri Schools, librarians, special educators and sports teachers.

Gupta asked teachers to treat children’s safety, education and future as a shared responsibility. She urged them to make students aware of good touch and bad touch, and to help bring children who are out of school into the education system.

The government has allocated ₹19,148 crore for education in 2026-27, Gupta said. It is establishing 170 modern language laboratories in government schools: 70 in CM Shri Schools and 100 in other schools.

Sood said the government has made provision for 613 special teachers to support students with special needs. He said it was also working on administrative, HR and service-related matters affecting teachers, including guest teachers, with most issues expected to be resolved next year.
