Delhi targets September–October rollout for drone and semiconductor policies

Delhi is working towards a September–October rollout of new drone and semiconductor policies, with draft documents expected to go to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta for approval soon.

The drafts will then be opened for public feedback, placed before the Cabinet and sent to the lieutenant governor after Cabinet approval, an official said. The government has said the policies are intended to draw technology investment and create jobs, though the incentives and benefits have not yet been finalised.

For drones, the government plans to ask the Delhi Development Authority for land in Narela for a dedicated ecosystem supporting companies, start-ups and training. Officials cited uses ranging from mapping and infrastructure inspection to delivery services and emergency work.

The semiconductor policy is planned around five areas: chip design and intellectual property, research and innovation, manufacturing-enabling work including assembly, testing, marking and packaging, ancillary industries, and skilling. The final rollout timeline depends on the approvals process.
