Delhi plans 56 women-only electric bus services, 26 for DU

The Delhi government plans to introduce 56 women-only electric bus services, including 26 University Ladies Special (U-SPL) services on 13 routes linked to Delhi University colleges.

The U-SPL buses will connect colleges including Hindu College, Ramjas College, Daulat Ram College, Shri Ram College of Commerce and Lady Shri Ram College.

The remaining 30 Ladies Special trips will operate on 15 high-demand routes linking residential areas with hubs including Nehru Place, AIIMS, South Extension, Connaught Place, ITO and the Delhi Secretariat. Stickers will identify buses reserved for women.

The rollout also includes 200 electric buses: 112 Delhi Electric Vehicle Interconnector buses and 88 12-metre buses. The addition is set to take Delhi’s electric-bus fleet to 4,938 buses and its total bus fleet to 6,800. The low-floor, air-conditioned buses have CCTV cameras, panic buttons and accessibility features for persons with disabilities.

Five electric buses are also due to begin Delhi-Karnal operations, with 10 daily trips in each direction via Singhu Border, Rai, Murthal, Panipat and other stops. A charging station with four 240-kW chargers is set to open at Rajghat Depot-I.
