Delhi’s 2047 plan ties new plotted development to road plans

Delhi’s Master Plan 2047 makes road planning a precondition for new plotted development in redevelopment areas and low- and high-density corridors. The Delhi Development Authority must prepare road-network plans before granting such permissions, with a three-month timeline set in the plan.

The notified plan targets 30 lakh to 40 lakh homes by 2047, including 18 lakh units in transit-oriented development zones along Metro corridors. It also reduces the minimum area for group- and government-housing redevelopment from 40,000 square metres to 3,000 square metres, a change projected to enable 7 lakh additional homes.

For daily travel, the plan envisages expanding the Metro network from 416 km to 695 km, supported by buses and six new RRTS corridors. It proposes protection and ecological restoration across nearly 1,700 hectares of Yamuna floodplain through 13 major projects, along with a 52-km riverfront cycling track.
