Delhi’s district development framework expands from nine to 13 committees

Delhi will have 13 district development committees instead of nine under a restructuring approved by Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu.

The revised framework matches the capital’s current revenue-district structure and partially changes a system notified in 1999. At its apex will be a committee chaired by the chief minister, with all cabinet ministers, the chairpersons of the 13 district committees, the chief secretary and the MCD standing committee chairperson among its members.

The principal secretary of the Public Works Department has been made a permanent member, alongside senior representatives of departments and agencies including finance, urban development, planning, general administration, MCD, NDMC and the Delhi Jal Board. The Delhi Development Authority vice-chairman will be a regular member, while the secretary (revenue)-cum-divisional commissioner will serve as member-secretary.

Officials said the structure will be used to monitor civic projects, coordinate work involving multiple agencies and support time-bound grievance redressal in all 13 districts. It also removes older designations, including the erstwhile Delhi Vidyut Board and the post of principal secretary to the chief minister.
