Delhi heat index hits 45.5°C; IMD forecasts light rain on Tuesday

Delhi’s heat index reached 45.5°C at 2.30 pm on Monday, making Safdarjung’s maximum temperature of 35.6°C feel hotter. By about 5.30 pm, the heat index had eased to 44.4°C.

Humidity ranged from 63% to 87%. Delhi recorded no rain in the previous 24 hours, apart from drizzle at Lodhi Road.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast light to very light rain in some parts of Delhi on Tuesday, with maximum temperatures expected to range from 32°C to 34°C. Weather analyst Mahesh Palawat said rain is possible on September 16 and 17, with stronger spells possible as northwesterly and southeasterly winds increase moisture over the region.

Delhi’s air quality was satisfactory on Monday, with an AQI of 79. The IMD does not expect a significant change in maximum temperatures over the next seven days.
