Safdarjung sees heaviest August rain in two years; roads waterlogged

Safdarjung recorded 99.1mm of rain in the 24 hours ending 8.30am Tuesday, its highest rainfall for an August day in two years. Delhi University logged 104mm, while Ayanagar recorded 101.9mm and Ridge 100.4mm.

The downpour left water on Ashoka Road, Raisina Road, Parliament Street and roads around Connaught Place, RML Hospital, the Supreme Court and AIIMS. Traffic also slowed on ITO towards Mandi House, Vikas Marg, the Akshardham flyover, Patel Nagar, Sarai Kale Khan, the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, Mayur Vihar Phase 2 and IP Extension.

The MCD received three tree-fall complaints from Patel Nagar, Sector 7 Rohini and Krishna Nagar between 2pm and 6pm. It also logged waterlogging complaints from Chhatarpur, Kamla Nagar Market, Jain Nagar in Rohini and Rama Vihar in Sector 39, Rohini.

Weather activity is expected to ease overnight, with Wednesday morning largely dry. Meteorologist Navdeep Dahiya said moderate to heavy showers could return from late afternoon, with isolated very heavy rain possible.
