Delhi Master Plan 2047 lists air taxis as a future transport option

Air taxis and air pods feature in Delhi’s long-range mobility plan, but they are not yet a service that residents can book.

The transport chapter of Master Plan Delhi-2047, approved by the Delhi Development Authority on August 12, lists the two modes among options that could be explored. It also refers to inland waterways on the Yamuna, Sahibi and Najafgarh drain.

The plan does not specify routes, operators, timelines or infrastructure for air-based travel. Its immediate transport framework focuses on integrating buses, Metro, rail and last-mile connections, and proposes unified ticketing and intelligent transport systems.

A February 2026 industry proposal suggested a 65-75km pilot air-taxi corridor linking Gurugram, Connaught Place and Noida International Airport at Jewar, using electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft. The proposal estimated that road journeys taking hours could take under 30 minutes by air.

Amit Bhatt of the International Council on Clean Transportation said such services would serve a limited niche, including airport access, rather than mass travel. Delhi’s average trip length is about 5km, he said, while air travel would require longer journeys and solutions for airspace, regulation and ground infrastructure.

For now, MPD-2047 provides no route, timeline or implementation framework for air-taxi services.
