Delhi’s MCD tally shows 272 dengue cases so far this year

Delhi’s MCD has recorded 272 dengue cases so far in 2026, including 26 cases in the week ending August 22. No deaths from dengue, malaria or chikungunya have been reported in the civic body’s latest figures.

Of the week’s dengue cases, 23 were from MCD areas and one each from the New Delhi Municipal Council, Delhi Cantonment Board and Northern Railways. Delhi has also recorded 95 malaria cases, including 15 during the week, and 21 chikungunya cases, with two new infections reported that week.

MCD teams are carrying out inspections across the corporation’s 12 zones before the usual post-monsoon rise in mosquito-borne disease. Between January 1 and August 22, they found mosquito breeding at more than one lakh locations, issued 81,143 legal notices and began 6,927 prosecutions over breeding-friendly conditions. Anti-larval indoor spraying was carried out in 3.57 lakh houses.

The MCD has asked residents not to allow stagnant water to collect around their homes. Its dengue total differs from an earlier estimate of at least 1,300 cases cited by Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Singh this month.
