Delhi festival to exhibit Group 8 prints at College of Art

Prints by Delhi’s Group 8 collective will be displayed at the College of Art from September 13 to 15 as part of the second edition of DAG’s City as a Museum festival.

The festival runs from September 12 to 25 and traces the city through art, architecture and neighbourhood histories. Group 8 emerged from Delhi’s printmaking scene after Jagmohan Chopra set up a studio at his home in the 1960s, alongside the College of Art’s facilities. The collective’s artists later exhibited around the country.

Printmaker and Group 8 member Santosh Jain will lead collagraph workshops at the college’s printmaking department on September 14 and 15. The process uses a plate to create multiple editions of a print.

Other events include exhibitions at DAG’s Janpath gallery and Bikaner House; a September 15 walkthrough of the modern-art collection at Nizamuddin’s Ghalib Academy; and a September 17 visit to the Baba Baghel Singh museum at Gurdwara Bangla Sahib with artist Arpana Caur and historian Kanika Singh. A September 19 panel in Jamia Nagar will examine the relationship between the university and its surrounding locality.
