Bikaner House digital art exhibition features VR, video and sculpture

At Bikaner House, a visitor can step into a virtual desert, encounter moving-image works and see digital sculpture alongside more familiar fine-art forms.

(Re)claiming Rights of Render(ing), presented by NewArtX, features nine contemporary artists including Riyas Komu, Alex Davis, Atul Bhalla, Gigi Scaria, GR Iranna, Sibdas Sengupta, Teja Gavankar, Vibha Galhotra and Waswo X Waswo. Their works use virtual reality, interactive installations, video, projection, digital editing and fine-art printing.

Komu has made a digital work centred on the moment of Mahatma Gandhi’s death, at 5.17pm on January 30, 1948. Vibha Galhotra’s *Who Owns The Earth?* uses a VR headset to place viewers in a desert setting and continues her engagement with climate change. Other works address environmental and social concerns through video walls, manipulated images and layered visual narratives.

NewArtX, a Mumbai-based studio founded in May 2024 by Saryu Pareek Gupta and Pulkit Gupta, provides artists with technical, software and hardware support for digital projects. The exhibition remains open at LTC, Bikaner House, New Delhi, until August 14.
