Doctors at Delhi-NCR hospitals say they are seeing more H1N1 and other respiratory infections during the monsoon season.
Doctors at Delhi-NCR hospitals report more H1N1 and respiratory infections and advise higher-risk patients to seek care for severe symptoms.
Dr Neeraj Nischal, professor of medicine at AIIMS Delhi, said influenza, the common cold and other viral respiratory infections are being seen frequently this season in Delhi-NCR.
H1N1, often called swine flu, may cause a runny nose, cough, fever, body aches and fatigue. Older people, young children, and people with asthma, COPD or other health conditions may face a greater risk of complications.
Dr Harpreet Kaur of Aakash Healthcare said the hospital recorded dengue and H1N1 cases in July, with H1N1 infections increasing in August. Dr Sunil Rana of Asian Hospital said patients were also presenting with dengue, H1N1 and H3N2, with symptoms ranging from cough and throat pain to severe pneumonia.
Doctors advise people to cover their mouth and nose while coughing or sneezing, wash their hands regularly, avoid crowded places where possible, and keep distance from people with flu-like symptoms. People who are unwell should avoid close contact with relatives and friends. Those with severe respiratory symptoms, and people in higher-risk groups, should consult a doctor and may discuss influenza vaccination with their healthcare provider.
