Mumbai Air Cargo Complex: DRI finds 691.87g gold in treadmill
DRI officers said they found a 24-carat gold bar valued at ₹1.10 crore inside the motor of a treadmill imported from Hong Kong. Two people were arrested under the Customs Act.
DRI officers said they recovered a 691.87g gold bar from a treadmill at Mumbai Air Cargo Complex and arrested two people under the Customs Act.
A 691.87g, 24-carat gold bar valued at ₹1.10 crore was found inside the motor of an imported treadmill at Mumbai’s Air Cargo Complex on Sunday, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials said.
The consignment had arrived from Hong Kong. DRI officers inspected it after receiving a tip-off and recovered the bar from the treadmill motor, officials said.
Officials said they arrested a person who arrived to take delivery of the treadmill and the Indian importer under the Customs Act. They alleged that the person collecting the consignment had coordinated its clearance with people based abroad.
DRI teams later searched locations in Mumbai, Chennai, Tiruvallur and Chengalpattu as part of the investigation.
