Delhi University suspends law PhD scholar after alleged assault

At about 10.30am at Umang Bhawan, a Faculty of Law PhD scholar allegedly slapped a professor. CCTV footage recorded the incident, Delhi University said.

The university suspended the scholar with immediate effect and barred him from entering any university premises under Ordinance XV-B of the Delhi University Act, 1922. The scholar joined the Faculty of Law in the 2024-25 academic session under Phase-II.

DU Proctor Manoj Kumar Singh said the university had formed a three-member committee to examine the matter. Rajeev Gupta of the Department of Chemistry will head the panel, with Vipul Singh from History and Sudha Singh from Hindi as members.

The committee has been asked to investigate the alleged misconduct and submit its findings. The suspension and campus-entry ban remain in effect while the inquiry is under way.
