With printed campaign material restricted, Delhi University student-election candidates are leaning on short videos, humour and campus issues to reach voters online.
DUSU candidates are using reels and other social-media posts more prominently as campaigning shifts beyond college gates. The September 18 election will be counted the following day.
Delhi University’s DUSU candidates are making their pitch in seconds: a reel, a campus joke, an introduction or a video centred on a student issue.
With restrictions on posters and other printed material, social platforms have become a bigger part of the campaign before the September 18 DUSU election. Candidates are using short videos to build recognition alongside physical canvassing, while content creators are producing edits designed for students’ feeds.
Kavya, a first-year student, said the format lets voters choose when to engage. “If a reel interests me, I watch it. Otherwise, I can simply scroll past,” she said.
The university has encouraged online outreach as a way to reduce defacement of public spaces and pollution linked to conventional campaign materials. The poster-free campaign has also included costume-led campaigning.
Polling is scheduled for September 18, with counting set for September 19.
