Eigen Labs India lead compares Bengaluru and San Francisco tech hubs

“SF and Bangalore are not comparable,” Kunal Gandhi, India lead at US-based Eigen Labs, wrote in a post comparing the two technology hubs.

Gandhi said San Francisco differs in ambition, scale, capital and its willingness to absorb failure. He described professional access there as “ungated” and said the city’s day-to-day ease lets founders focus on building companies.

He said Bengaluru could eventually reach a similar benchmark, without giving a timeline. “Bangalore has a lead in dosa,” he added, joking that a robot startup may eventually perfect that too.

Replies to the post returned repeatedly to Bengaluru’s infrastructure. One reply said traffic and rent can distract founders from building billion-dollar companies; another said even money cannot secure predictable travel time in the city. Gandhi agreed, calling it a problem shared by most Indian cities.
