Electric vehicles made up 7% of Delhi’s new light goods vehicle sales in 2025

Delhi added 1,026 electric N1 light goods vehicles in 2025, a 7% share of the category’s new registrations, the Commission for Air Quality Management said.

N1 vehicles are used to carry goods and have a gross vehicle weight of up to 3,500kg. Of the 14,712 new N1 registrations recorded in Delhi last year, 13,646 were CNG-powered. Diesel accounted for 35 registrations and petrol for four.

Delhi’s active N1 fleet stood at 1.06 lakh at the end of 2025, including 1,980 electric vehicles and 1.03 lakh CNG vehicles. CAQM member secretary Tarun Kumar Pithode said electric penetration in new registrations was increasing while diesel sales stayed low.

For delivery operators and other businesses buying new light goods vehicles, the policy change is now close: Delhi will register only electric N1 vehicles from January 1, 2027. The restriction will extend to Gurgaon, Faridabad, Sonipat, Ghaziabad and Gautam Budh Nagar from July 1, 2027.
