Elisha Roy says Bengaluru’s broken roads are taking a toll on her back

Elisha Roy says her back has begun to “hate Bengaluru” after almost daily autorickshaw trips over broken roads.

Roy, founder of MyMiniMoo, said she often takes an auto because cabs take longer in traffic, even when she would be willing to pay more for one. But, she wrote, autos cannot absorb the impact of potholes and uneven surfaces, leaving every jolt to travel straight to the passenger.

She recalled nearly being thrown from an auto when its driver swerved to avoid a pothole. Roy said she did not blame the driver: navigating one pothole often meant driving through another on roads she described as badly damaged.

Roy also said she knew two people whose slipped discs had been triggered or aggravated by their daily commute. Her account frames bad roads not only as a delay for Bengaluru commuters, but as a possible physical burden through repeated back and neck strain.

She called for safe, well-maintained roads, arguing that residents should not have to choose between a slow cab journey and an auto ride that leaves them repeatedly jolted.
