Faridabad court sentences two men to life in 2023 Mujesar rape-murder

A Faridabad court has sentenced two men to rigorous life imprisonment until the end of their natural lives for the 2023 rape and murder of a 25-year-old woman in the Mujesar police station area.

Additional Sessions Judge Purushottam Kumar sentenced the two men on Tuesday and fined each of them ₹2.61 lakh. The court convicted them of murder, gang rape, house trespass, causing disappearance of evidence and common intention under the Indian Penal Code, along with provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

According to prosecution officials, the woman returned home from work at lunchtime on April 21, 2023. The court found that the men entered the house intending to steal, sexually assaulted and killed her, and tried to make her death appear to be suicide. Two mobile phones were taken from the house.

Her husband found her dead later that night. After an autopsy, police registered a rape and murder case at Mujesar police station on April 23. Police arrested the two men four days later and recovered the phones and a house key, officials said.

The prosecution said forensic tests found the convicts’ DNA on the woman’s body and that investigators recovered fingerprints from the house. Twenty-five prosecution witnesses testified during the trial.
