Faridabad Global City plan moves ahead as Gurgaon project still awaits its first plot sale

Chief minister Nayab Singh Saini has given Haryana officials three months to prepare an action plan for electricity and water supply at the proposed Faridabad Global City.

The state is also seeking a separate plan for a world-class iconic tower in Faridabad. Officials have described the project as a 1,000-acre planned urban centre with educational and healthcare institutions, malls, theatres, hotels, community centres and marriage palaces. The plan also includes a water treatment plant, a green lake and Namo Bharat connectivity.

Government estimates put the project cost at Rs 1,000 crore. Officials say 80% of physical work has been completed, with the balance targeted for completion by December.

Gurgaon’s unfinished template

The announcement arrives while Gurgaon’s own Global City, conceived in 2019 across sectors 36, 36B, 37 and 37B near Dwarka Expressway, remains without a single plot sale. The 1,000-acre project was intended to become a mixed-use business district with offices, homes, retail, hospitals, schools, hospitality facilities, green spaces and water bodies.

Its first-phase contract, covering roads, power, water supply and other trunk infrastructure across about 587 acres, was awarded in September 2023 for Rs 940 crore. That phase has a December 2026 completion target.

Access works are still being planned around the Gurgaon site, including a proposed Rs 923-crore trumpet interchange on Dwarka Expressway for signal-free access to Global City and Vision City, and an upgrade of a six-kilometre stretch of Pataudi Road.

For Faridabad, the immediate next marker is the special infrastructure action plan due within three months.
