Faridabad: Scooter rider dies after collision with cow on NIT-3 Road

A 36-year-old Faridabad resident died early Tuesday after his scooter collided with a cow on NIT-3 Road, police said.

Police identified him as Ashu Khatri, 36. He was returning home after meeting a friend when the crash occurred at around 4am, they said. CCTV footage showed a cow on the road before the collision. Khatri was thrown from the scooter and struck a road divider, according to police.

His family said passers-by took him to a private hospital. He was referred to BK Hospital but died on the way. Police said they recorded statements from family members, completed postmortem formalities and handed the body over to the family.

The incident has again drawn attention to the risk posed by cattle on city roads. Municipal Corporation of Faridabad officials said about 20 accidents involving stray cattle have been recorded in the city since 2024, leaving around 15 people injured. They also cited a fatal crash in Bharat Colony in August 2024.

Municipal health officer Nitish Parwal said a strike by civic workers has affected operations to catch stray cattle. The corporation has increased its animal-pickup vehicle fleet from two to nine, he said. Last month, the corporation said cattle owners who release animals on public roads after milking could face FIRs and fines.
