Food safety team collects samples from Gurugram PAUL after complaint

Haryana’s Food and Drugs Administration collected food samples from PAUL at One Horizon Centre in Sector 43 after Gurugram resident Sulabh Mathur alleged that he found a white worm in a partially eaten sandwich.

The food safety team inspected the restaurant’s kitchen, cleanliness and hygiene standards on Tuesday. Food safety officer Sandeep Kumar said officials had issued the outlet’s owners a notice before the visit. He said the samples had been sent for laboratory testing and that further action would depend on the findings.

Mathur said he visited the outlet with friends for breakfast at around 11am on August 21 and ate nearly half the sandwich before noticing the worm. He posted a video on social media showing what he said was the worm.

The restaurant contacted Mathur and apologised, he said. PAUL India said in a public statement that the episode did not reflect the standards it seeks to maintain and that it follows food-safety, hygiene and compliance procedures. The company said it was conducting an internal investigation.

The FDA will decide its next action after receiving the laboratory report.
