Tikri Kalan CNG blast: FIR filed as police examine extra cylinders

A CNG-run truck authorised for six cylinders was being refuelled at Tikri Kalan when an explosion killed three station workers on Wednesday afternoon, Delhi Police said.

Police have registered an FIR against unidentified persons under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, relating to death by negligence. During an initial inspection, officers found additional cylinders fitted to the Haryana-registered truck and said they were being refuelled when the blast occurred. Police are investigating whether the additional cylinders were linked to the explosion.

The truck driver suffered burn injuries and is stable. The workers who died were Manish Prasad, 26, Sunny Singh, 30, and Brahmjeet Singh, 34. The blast took place at about 3.30pm.

Indraprastha Gas Limited said its preliminary findings indicated that extra cylinders may have been fitted to the vehicle. It said the status of those cylinders and the precise cause of the blast are under investigation.

Manish’s family and an injured worker have alleged that station staff had previously raised concerns about leaking or faulty pipes. Police said they will question the station dealer and IGL about those claims. Station equipment maintenance is the dealer’s responsibility, police said.
