FIR filed over Sahil Lochab’s pellet injuries during July 20 march in central Delhi

Sahil Lochab, 19, told Parliament Street police that he was carrying an Indian flag near Palika Bazaar on July 20 when he was struck by pellets during a student march towards Parliament.

Lochab, who lives in Najafgarh and studies at Delhi University’s School of Open Learning, alleged in the FIR that he saw a person in a blue uniform carrying a large gun. He said pellets hit his right eye, neck, chest, jaw and arm after a lathi-charge and crowd movement near the protest route.

Police registered the case under Sections 118(1) and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which concern causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous means. The people responsible have not been identified.

Lochab said he was first taken to Lady Hardinge Hospital and later treated at Safdarjung Hospital and AIIMS. He has sought treatment and compensation, saying his recovery will be prolonged. The FIR was registered after Rahul Gandhi’s sit-in at Parliament Street police station seeking a case in the matter. Read GTK’s earlier coverage of the sit-in.

Lochab has asked police to secure footage from the march route for July 20.
