Five-day Thane kirtan series ends with Krishna, Shivaji Maharaj narratives

Charudattbuva Afale’s retelling of Krishna’s battle with Narakasura and the liberation of women held captive by him formed part of a five-day kirtan series that ended in Thane on September 6.

The Rajyabhishek Samaroh Sanstha organised the programme at the Dnyananand School auditorium from September 2 to 6. Afale also drew on episodes from the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, including the appointment of Balaji Avji to an important administrative role for his abilities.

The series presented the valour of Abhimanyu and Baji Prabhu Deshpande as accounts of courage, sacrifice and commitment to duty. Organisers said the programme’s themes included dharma, devotion, resistance to injustice and the protection of women and vulnerable people.

Organisers said the Janmashtami and Gopalkala celebrations drew particularly large attendance. Sanjeev Brahme of the Kopineshwar Cultural Trust, Dr Ashwini Bapat, Arvind Joshi and BJP MLC Niranjan Davkhare were among those present.
