Gurugram Police arrested five men in an alleged Rs 13.80 crore investment fraud case and are examining bank transactions and other links.

Five men have been arrested in a Gurugram cyber-fraud investigation that began with a complaint alleging an investment fraud of about Rs 13.80 crore.

The complainant approached the Cyber Crime East police station on November 4, 2024. The Special Cyber Crime Unit in Sector 56 later examined banking transactions and arrested Neeraj, Suraj Saroj, Surjeet Kumar alias Manas, Prashant Sharma and Tej Pratap Singh Shekhawat, police said.

Police said Neeraj was arrested in Delhi on August 21. The other four were arrested from Dehradun, Shimla and the Dehradun-Shimla area on August 22. The latest arrests bring the number of people held in the case to 40, police said.

Police alleged that the five men provided bank accounts used to receive and transfer fraud proceeds. About Rs 5 lakh from the alleged fraud was credited to the current account of Gupta Industries, investigators said. Police alleged that the account had been passed through several intermediaries before reaching the group that was arrested.

ACP Cyber Gaurav Phogat said Surjeet was allegedly part of Telegram groups connected to people involved in a China-linked cyber-fraud network. Police alleged that he shared account details and received payments in cryptocurrency, including through Binance. Police said they recovered six mobile phones.

Investigators are examining financial transactions, other alleged associates and the wider network.
