Five held in Noida for alleged Rs 29 lakh extortion posing as GST officers

A GST consultant was allegedly stopped near S Aspire Society in Noida and taken away in his own car by men posing as GST officials, Bisrakh police said.

Police said they arrested five people in connection with the alleged July 20 extortion. The group is accused of blocking the consultant’s vehicle, threatening him with jail over purported fake e-way bills linked to two firms, and demanding Rs 29 lakh. The consultant’s brother later brought cash, police said, after which the group left the consultant and his car.

Police identified the accused as Kashish Chauhan alias Ishu, Rajesh Pawar, Vivek Sharma, Ankit Shahi and Anshul. Investigators said Chauhan had known the consultant since 2021 and was aware of his GST-related work.

Police said they recovered cash and gold and silver jewellery valued at Rs 29 lakh. They also seized two cars, seven mobile phones, a police sub-inspector’s uniform and a Delhi Civil Defence uniform. Police said none of the accused is a police officer.
