Delhi: Former Mohalla Clinic staff say final salaries are pending

Dr Amit Gupta says ₹78,000 in salary dues from January and February remains pending for his work at a Mohalla Clinic near Mandawali metro station, months after the clinic closed.

Delhi has been replacing Mohalla Clinics with Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs) since May 2025. Of the 553 Mohalla Clinics that operated in the city, 415 AAMs have opened so far, against a target of 1,100. The primary-care centres are intended to provide maternal and child healthcare, routine immunisation, screening for non-communicable diseases and nearly 80 free diagnostic tests.

Some former clinic staff members were selected for AAM posts and say they continue to receive salaries. Others who were not retained say their final payments remain pending. In an August 27 response to Gupta, an east district health official said approval for the payment budget was under consideration.

A former east district multi-task worker said they had been without work since their clinic shut in March and were awaiting AAM vacancies. Former staff have also raised concerns about unpaid cleaning and medicine-transport costs.

A senior Health Department official said the department would examine any negligence. Cases filed by some staff members are listed for hearing in the Delhi High Court on September 8.
