Delhi Police rescue newborn in Yamuna Bazar, arrest five women

Delhi Police said they rescued a four-day-old infant near Hanuman Mandir in Yamuna Bazar, Kashmere Gate, during a decoy operation on August 7.

Police said officers posing as buyers arranged a ₹6.5 lakh deal for the child. At about 10pm, a 30-year-old woman and her associates arrived at the meeting point, police said. The decoy officers paid ₹20,000 as token money before four other women joined her.

One of the women was carrying the infant wrapped in a blanket, police said. Officers then arrested all five women.

Police have registered a case under provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to child trafficking. Investigators allege that the infant had been obtained through an acquaintance in Ghaziabad for ₹4.10 lakh and was being offered for sale.

The infant was taken to Aruna Asaf Ali Hospital. Police said the Child Helpline and the Child Welfare Committee were informed.
