Delhi plans four lift-equipped foot overbridges

Pedestrians crossing Shaheed Jeet Singh Marg at Katwaria Sarai may get a foot overbridge with both a staircase and a lift under a Public Works Department plan.

The passenger lift is proposed with a regenerative drive, voice announcements on floor position, handrails, barrier-free access and vision panels on its doors. The design also includes emergency messaging or alarms, CCTV surveillance, an intercom, battery-backed emergency lighting and fan operation, along with fire-rated landing doors and overload and overspeed protection.

PWD is also planning three other foot overbridges: at Shahbad Dairy on Badli Bawana Road, near the A-2 Block Jeevan Park Bus Stand, and near Mata Chanan Devi Hospital on Pankha Road in Janakpuri.

For older people, people with disabilities and others who find stairways difficult, the lifts are intended to make road crossings more usable. The plans include a pit ladder and a provision for manual rescue if the electronic systems fail.
