FSSAI notices JW Marriott, Andaz Delhi over Aerocity food-safety lapses

FSSAI has issued notices to JW Marriott Delhi and Andaz Delhi after inspections recorded food-safety and hygiene lapses at the two Aerocity hotels.

At JW Marriott Delhi, FSSAI recorded inadequate pest control, cockroaches and fruit flies, spoiled food, uncovered items, damaged storage containers and potential cross-contamination. The regulator also cited fungal growth on apples, rotten tomatoes and food not kept under prescribed storage conditions. It further said the hotel carried out retail and relabelling activity not endorsed in its FSSAI licence.

At Andaz Delhi, inspectors recorded active cockroaches near freezers, flies and mosquitoes in a grinding room, spider webs, and expired food. FSSAI said it found about 87kg of expired sweets, along with cake base and bread packets. It also flagged duplicate date markings on expired bread packaging, gaps in supplier verification and the absence of a system to track incoming raw materials.

FSSAI directed both establishments to take corrective action and submit supporting evidence. It has collected regulatory samples; further action will depend on compliance and sample analysis.

JW Marriott said it would take necessary action based on the findings. Andaz said it submitted a detailed action-taken report after its June 22 inspection.
