Gaimukh–Payegaon bridge piling passes 95% mark in Thane

Piling for the creek section of Thane’s Gaimukh–Payegaon bridge has crossed 95% completion, while nearly 25% of the 6.5km project is complete.

As foundation work nears completion, crews are working on piers and pier caps. Construction is also under way at the two approaches: Gaimukh on Ghodbunder Road and Chinchoti–Payegaon.

The planned crossing would connect Gaimukh directly with Chinchoti–Payegaon, with links towards Bhiwandi, Vasai and other northern parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Motorists travelling towards Chinchoti, Payegaon and Vasai currently use Ghodbunder’s ghat stretch, where heavy vehicles can affect traffic.

The project is intended to provide an alternative to that stretch and ease traffic pressure on Ghodbunder Road, a Thane corridor towards Mumbai’s western suburbs, Mira-Bhayandar and the Mumbai–Ahmedabad Highway. Project plans also include connections with the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High Speed Rail corridor, Thane Coastal Road, the Virar–Alibaug Multimodal Corridor, the Diva–Vasai railway line, National Highway 48 and Anjur–Chinchoti Road.
